MALABO, EQUATORIAL GUINEA (JANUARY 29, 2012 ) (REUTERS) -
Zambia beat co-host Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in Malabo on Sunday (January 29) in the African Nations Cup.

Christopher Katonga scored for Zambia in the 68th minute of their Group A match.

The result means that both Zambia and Equatorial Guinea have qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition from that group. But Equatorial Guinea now seem likely to face Ivory Coast in the last eight.

Zambia's coach Herve Renard said: ''The task of Zambia was not easy to come and win in Equatorial Guinea with the support of its public and now we can say that Equatorial Guinea was on a cloud, it was psychologically difficult for us but we 've been able to face it mentally, this is great, bravo to the players.

Now we have to calm down at five days from the quarter-finals, to fully recover and prepare well.''

Equatorial Guinea's Konate Mamadou Ben-Esono said after the match: ''We wanted to manipulate the result, we wanted to get a draw but God did not give us victory today or the draw, we must accept the result as it is, thanks God we are qualified for the quarter final. At this level of competition, there are no more smaller teams or bigger teams , we we will not calculate, we will go all the way even if it is Ivory Coast''
