Stanislas Wawrinka upsets Tomas Berdych to set up a Madrid Open final againstRafael Nadal.

MADRIDSPAIN (MAY 11, 2013) (IMG/TPL) -  Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland upset sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych on Saturday (May 11) to set up a Madrid Open final against Rafael Nadal.

Wawrinka, the 15th seed, came back from break down in the third set to defeat Berdych 6-3 4-6 6-4.

The Czech had taken a 4-2 lead in the third set but the Swiss fought back and levelled at 4-4. Wawrinka held serve and then went on to break Berdych in the next game to win the match.

"I'm really, really happy, it was a tough battle today, Berdych was playing good. It was a tough third set, I was a break down and it was not easy to come back but I tried to give everything and at the end I'm really, really happy with the way that I was playing and to win of course it's amazing for me," said Wawrinka after his victory.

Wawrinka arrived in Madrid fresh from his victory against Spaniard David Ferrer in the final in Estoril last weekend, the 28-year-old's first title since 2011.

Earlier, world number five Nadal thrashed compatriot Pablo Andujar 6-0 6-4 to reach the final.

Wawrinka has never beaten Nadal in eight attempts and lost to the Spaniard in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Monte Carlo Masters in their last meeting.

It will be Nadal's seventh final appearance in seven tournaments since he returned from injury.
