Speedway rider suffers chest injuries and dies in hospital.

WROCLAW, POLAND (MAY 13, 2012) (TVP) - 
British speedway rider Lee Richardson died in a crash in Poland on Sunday (May 13).

The 33-year-old Richardson, captain of Lakeside Hammers, hit the safety barrier while riding for Polish team Rzeszow in Wroclaw and was taken to hospital where he died of chest injuries.

After making his debut 1995, Richardson went on to win the U21 World Champion in 1999 and also represented Great Britain.

Lakeside Hammers co-promoter Jon Cook said that Richardson's loss to his family "was beyond imagination".

The British Speedway Promoters' Association said it was shocked and saddened.

Lakeside Hammers is based in Purfleet, southern England.
