Sochi Olympic Torch Reaches Bottom Of Lake Baikal, World's Deepest

Divers take the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games torch to the bottom of the lake Baikal.

LAKE BAIKALRUSSIA (NOVEMBER 23, 2013) (SOCHI 2014 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES ORGANISING COMMITTEE) - A rescuer from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Nikolai Rybachenko took the Olympic torch to the bottom of the world's deepest lake, Lake Baikal on Saturday (November 23).

The mission was the result of two months of training dives.

Under water, Rybachenko handed the torch over to a popular TV presenter and a member of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Committee.

The Olympic torch is on an unprecedented 65,000-kilometre, 123-day journey, criss-crossingRussia to show the world Russia's regional and ethnic diversity while creating excitement and unity among residents ahead of the Games, according to the organisers.

Lake Baikal is in Russia's eastern Siberia region, a 5-hour flight from Moscow.
