Maria Sharapova says she is just happy to be in the WTA Championships final after a five-year absence and admits it will be tough against the in-form Serena Williams.

ISTANBULTURKEY (OCTOBER 27, 2012) (UCOM) -  Maria Sharapova said on Saturday (October 26) she was pleased to reach the WTA Championships final after a five-year absence.

The world number two beat Victoria Azarenka, who will finish the year as No.1 in the rankings, 6-4 6-2 and the Russian is yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Sharapova has advanced to the WTA Championships final for the first time since 2007.

"It's been a few years since I've been in the final of this event and to come to this event with the top eight girls and to be one of the last two is a great feeling," Sharapova said, "and there's obviously one more match to go but it's certainly a great accomplishment to get there."

Sharapova won her sole title at the event in 2004 when she her opponent in Sunday's (October 28) final Serena Williams, which is the last time she beat the American.

"She (Williams) is certainly the player to beat in the second half of the year with her two grand slam wins and the Olympic gold and obviously there's a lot on the line but that's why we go out and we play the matches.

"It's been a few years since I beat her and I'd love to have a chance to go out and enjoy it and compete and play well."
