Shaquille O'Neal announced he was planning to retire from the NBA on Tuesday after a professional career spanning nearly two decades.

One of the most accomplished players in the game, O'Neal made the announcement by posting a video on a social website.

"We did it. Nineteen years baby. I want to thank you very much, that's why I'm telling you first, I'm about to retire.

Thank you, talk to you soon," he said in the message.

O'Neal, who won four NBA titles and played for five pro teams in addition to the Lakers. - the Orlando Magic, the Miami Heat, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics. Three of O'Neals championship rings were won with the Lakers and the fourth with the Heat. He finishes seventh on the all time scoring list with 28,596 points and 13th in rebounds with 13,099. He averaged 23.7 points and 10.9 rebounds in a career that began the Orlando Magic in 1991 and ended with the Boston Celtics this year.
