Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for New England Patriots football playerAaron Hernandez on suspicion that he interfered with a murder investigation, law enforcement officials say.

FOXBOROMASSACHUSETTSUNITED STATES (JUNE 20, 2013) (NBC) -  Authorities plan to arrest New England Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez on suspicion that he interfered with a murder investigation, a law enforcement official familiar with the case said on Friday (June 21).

An arrest warrant for obstruction of justice has been issued for Hernandez, a top tight end in the National Football League, according to a law enforcement official. Hernandez is at the center of an investigation into the shooting death Odin Lloyd, a semiprofessional football player for the Boston Bandits, whose body was found near the athlete's home in Massachusetts.

Hernandez, who was seen arriving at the Patriots facility at Gillette Stadium on Thursday (June 20) has not been named as a suspect in the case and the team has not commented on the situation.

Hernandez was trailed by a news helicopter and mobbed by reporters at a near-by gas station while filling up his vehicle, after leaving the stadium.

The body of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd was discovered on Monday (June 17) in an industrial park in the town, which lies about 40 miles south of Boston. Police have since searched Hernandez's house and questioned him. A car rented in Hernandez's name is also considered a key piece of evidence.

The Patriots signed Hernandez to a five-year, $40-million dollar contract last summer.
