LIBREVILLE, GABON (FEBRUARY 9, 2012)(REUTERS) -Brazil soccer legend Pele visited Libreville on Thursday (February 9) in the build-up to Sunday's (February 12) African Nations Cup final between Ivory Coast and Zambia.
The Brazilian had watched on Wednesday (February 8) as Ivory Coast booked their place in the final by beating Mali.
Pele met President Ali Bongo and then went to the stadium where Sunday's final will take place - Stade de l'Amitie. There he inspected a photograph exhibition dedicated to his career and presented the president with a Brazil shirt. The president also unveiled a statue to Pele, a bust depicting his smiling face.
Pele spoke about the chances that a tournament such as the African Nations Cup afforded a country like Gabon, bringing together so many nations in one place. He said that Brazil was going through the same process as it prepares to host the 2014 World Cup.
