Nigerian soccer fans are delighted with their 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in the African Nations Cup.
RUSTENBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (FEBRUARY 3, 2013) (REUTERS) - Unheralded Sunday Mba scored 12 minutes from time to hand Nigeria a shock 2-1 quarter-final win and knock favourites Ivory Coast out of the African Nations Cup in Rustenburg, South Africa on Sunday (February 3), to the delight of their fans.
The home-based midfielder set up the goal with a mazy run and his shot took a deflection off Souleman Bamba.
Cheikh Tiote equalised early in the second half with a header as he stole in unmarked at the back post.
As Nigerian fans celebrated outside the ground one of them, John, explained: "We play on the floor. That is how we play good football. When we play on the air we don't play good football. When we play on the floor we play good football. We dazzle the opponents."
A disappointed Ivory Coast fan, Steven, commented: "...we were relaxed. We were so relaxed we thought we were going to win, but at the end they pressed us until we lose. We thought we were going to win the game but we were so disappointed."
