Murray beaten by Tipsarevic in Abu Dhabi

Andy Murray is beaten in straight sets by Janko Tipsarevic in Abu Dhabi.

 ABU DHABIUAE (DECEMBER 27, 2012) (IMG) -  Britain's world number three Andy Murray lost 6-3 6-4 to Janko Tipsarevic at the Mubadal World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (December 27).

The US Open champion made a faltering start to the new season in the six-man exhibition event, making numerous unforced errors on his way to defeat at the hands of Serbian world number nine Tipsarevic, who goes on to face Spain's Nico Almagro, a late replacement for the ill Rafael Nadal, in the semi-final.

The day's other match saw Spain's David Ferrer beat Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-2 6-4 to set up a semi-final meeting with world number one Novak Djokovicof Serbia.

Ferrer was never troubled by Berdych after making a blistering start which saw the world number five win the first five games of the match on his way to taking the first set. The second set was closer, Ferrer breaking Berdych's serve in the sixth game then holding his own service games to win the match.

The tournament sees six players compete in a single elimination series of matches with two players, Djokovic and Almagro, being given a bye from Thursday's matches.

Semi-final matches will take place on Friday (December 28) with the final and consolation matches taking place on Saturday (December 29).
