MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (JANUARY 29, 2012) (NETWORK TEN) - Australian Open tennis winner, Victoria Azarenka, showed off her new trophy by the banks of Melbourne's Yarra River on Sunday (January 29).

It was a double victory for Azarenka, whose defeat of Maria Sharapova propelled her up the rankings to become the new world number one.

"I didn't have much sleep. I actually slept about four hours. I was back on my computer, you know, trying to answer all the messages," she said.

Press photographers from around the world were eager to get a shot of Azarenka proudly holding her maiden grand slam trophy.

The 22-year-old from Belarus spent much of the night celebrating, but still had enough energy to pose in the Melbourne sunshine.

"I didn't have much sleep. I actually slept about four hours. I was back on my computer, you know, trying to answer all the messages," she said.

Azarenka's Australian Open win was her first major title.
